Ponniyin Selvan 2 is the highly anticipated second part of the two-part Tamil language film directed by Mani Ratnam. The film is an adaptation of the classic Tamil novel “Ponniyin Selvan” by Kalki Krishnamurthy. Set in 10th-century South India, the story revolves around the political and personal conflicts of the Chola dynasty. Made on a huge budget with a stellar cast and crew, PS2 cost Rs 335 crores. If it receives positive reviews and word of mouth, the film may cross 100 crores in the first weekend itself. However, the makers decided to release it independently in most major cities instead of relying on traditional distributors.
The trailer of Ponniyin Selvan 2 had previously shown that Vikram’s Karikalan was given the chance to rule half of the Chola empire, while a new crown prince was chosen for the other half following Ponniyin Selvan’s death. Jayam Ravi, the lead character, has been shot alive.
Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Trisha, Shobhita Dhulipala, Aishwarya Lakshmi, Nasser, Parathiban, Prabhu, Vikram, Prabhu, Jayaram, Prakashraj, Lal, R Sarathkumar, Jayachitra, Rahman, Balaji Sakthivel and others are the main stars of the film.
The music and background score of Ponniyin Selvan 2 is composed by music legend AR Rahman. He and Mani Ratnam will work together once again in the film. National award winners have been roped in to work in critical areas of the film. The editor of the film was Sreekar Prasad, the cameraman was Ravi Varman and the production design manager was Thota Tarani. The film was produced by Subaskaran Alliraja and Mani Ratnam under the auspices of Lyca Productions and Madras Talkies.
